Dear Homewood Baseball Parents –
As you may know, the Homewood Parks and Recreation Board has made a substantial commitment to improve the athletic facilities located at West Homewood Park. These improvements are scheduled this summer. The 2nd phase will focus on renovating the lower fields and upper fields. The Homewood Youth Baseball Board is excited about the pending improvements to the facilities and looks forward to our players having the best complex in the state.
With the upper and lower fields scheduled to be under construction for the next few months, our normal Fall Ball program is not an option.
6U-8U- We have finalized the details with the Hoover East Park (off Acton Road exit on I-459) and will be competing in their fall ball league. Registration will be through the Homewood Baseball SiPlay website and our teams will consist of 100% Homewood kids. There will be Fall Ball activities on Sunday afternoons beginning September 9, 2018 and will run through the end of October (subject to minor date changes). The first three weeks will be practices and the last five weeks will be games against either other Homewood teams or Hoover East teams.
9U- We have been able to work out a special treat for this group. This will be most of the players’ first experience trying to pitch or play catcher when receiving a pitch from a kid pitcher. In order to prepare this group of players for these new challenges, we have created a special pitching/catching clinic that will take place on the bullpen mounds of the Samford University baseball fields. There will be Samford players there to help coach our kids in a camp-like setting. We appreciate Coach Casey Dunn and his Samford Program for being willing to work with their hometown youth program! There will be 4 Sunday afternoons dedicated to these clinics: September 16, September 30, October 14, and October 21. The times are TBD, but please go ahead and mark those dates on your calendar.
We are glad to be offering Fall Ball this year with some minor adjustments. We are truly sorry about the inconvenience of having to play in another park. We truly believe that all players, coaches, parents and supporters will be thrilled with the updates in the Spring. We look forward to utilizing the upgrades to the lower fields and new upper field being added. We look forward to next season to continue the progress of Homewood Youth Baseball and allow the players to have the best experience possible.
